Microsoft released Internet Explorer 11 in 2013, but replaced it with Microsoft Edge in 2015. Since 2015, Internet Explorer has not received any updates other than security patches. The global community has largely moved on from Internet Explorer, with global usage numbers dropping below 3% as of 2019.
Since the release of Internet Explorer 11 there have been many advancements in web technology and performance and Axon relies on many of these advancements to deliver the best experience possible. Due to Internet Explorer’s limitations, some of our most powerful features, such as Redaction Studio and Axon Aware, are not fully supported. Additionally, the performance of many common features, such as Evidence Search, are significantly better in modern browsers.
In July 2017, Adobe announced they would stop distributing and updating Flash Player at the end of 2020. The announcement also said that Flash-based content will be blocked from running in Adobe Flash Player after December 31, 2020. The Flash Player is used for video playback on the Legacy Video Playback page and on Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) on Windows 7 and Windows 8 systems.
Since regular security updates are vital for protecting systems from malicious attacks, Axon Evidence will no longer support IE 11 on Windows 7 and Windows 8 systems and video playback on the Legacy Video Playback page after December 31, 2020.
We recommend upgrading your agency to a newer browser such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, or Microsoft Edge in order to ensure you continue to have access to all of the features of the Axon Network with the best possible performance. While we will continue to support Internet Explorer for our current features, support for future features will be determined on a case-by-case basis. New features that are not supported in Internet Explorer 11 will be noted in the Axon release notes.
