On September 19, 2019 Apple is releasing iOS 13. This update has a compatibility issue with the current version of Axon View.
This article has information about using Axon Mobile applications (Axon View, Axon Capture, Axon Device Manager) with iOS 13.
Q: Does Axon recommend that Axon Mobile application users upgrade to iOS 13?
A: If you use Axon View, Axon recommends waiting until Axon View v5.0.1 is available before upgrading to iOS 13. Axon View v5.0.1 will be available in the App Store on October 8, 2019.
If you only use Axon Capture or Axon Device Manager, you can upgrade to iOS 13 at your convenience.
Q: Why do I need to wait to upgrade to iOS 13 if I use Axon View?
A: Axon has identified that the current version of Axon View has compatibility issues with iOS 13. These issues include:
1) Unless location permission is given to Axon View, video from a paired Axon body-worn camera cannot be viewed from the camera’s Wi-Fi.
2) The initial location prompt does not provide the Always allow option for granting location permission for Axon View. A new user should navigate to Settings and change Axon View Location permission to Always. Until Always is selected, the user will be prompted to allow background location usage.
Axon View v5.0.1 will enable users to view videos without location permission, and provide earlier prompts to enable location permission. Axon View v5.0.1 will be available in the App Store on October 8, 2019.
Q: What are the potential issues if I use Axon View and my device was already updated to iOS 13?
A: You will not be able to view video from a paired Axon body-worn camera’s Wi-Fi unless location permission is enabled for Axon View.
If you have already upgraded to iOS 13 you can grant location permission by going to Settings → Axon View → Location and switch the permission to Always. The video below provides a quick overview of how to change the location permission for Axon View for iOS.
Q: Whether I upgrade to iOS 13 or not, will this affect my ability to tag (add a category, ID, title) and ingest videos into Evidence.com?
A: No, the iOS 13 update does not affect tagging of videos. But again Axon recommends deferring the iOS 13 upgrade until Axon View v5.0.1 is available.
Q: Why do I need to enable location permission?
A: Enabling the location permission allows your Axon body-worn camera’s Wi-Fi to connect to your iOS device.
Q: When will Axon View v5.0.1 be available?
A: We are testing our changes against the latest iOS 13 update now. Once testing is complete the app will be submitted to the App Store. Axon View v5.0.1 will be available in the App Store on October 8, 2019.
Q: Are there issues with Axon Capture or Axon Device Manager and iOS 13?
A: Axon testing has not encountered any issues with the current version of these apps.
